The CQC released the outcome of its consultation on 2011/12 registration, variation and compliance fees this week, sending the heads of Healthcare Providers into a bit of a spin!
The consultation outcome document details the views of the proposed fee structure put forward by current and future Healthcare Providers that require CQC registration to enable them to practice. This cohort of Healthcare Providers includes Ambulance Providers, Independent Healthcare Providers, NHS Trusts, Social Care Providers, Dentists and (as of April 2012) General Practitioners. Importantly, it also provides the finalised fee levels that each type of Healthcare Provider will need to pay annually.
The biggest changes to the fee structure, following the consultation responses, are:
- Certain services that only offer one type of service (i.e. Diagnostic Services) have been set a lower annual fee rate than originally proposed
- All Providers will receive a single annual invoice for their registration and variation charges, and this invoice will be sent at the same time each year.
- The number of locations that a Provider operates from is taken into consideration in the setting of annual fees.
- Social Care providers will see that variations have been made to their fee structure to take into consideration the number of residential beds that each provider houses.
