Thousands of job fairs take place across the UK every year. They are a great way to get your CV out there and to meet potential employers. 

Job fairs can be a great way to find your dream job. The fairs have representatives from the company that can meet you in person. Job fairs provide a convenient location for you to meet employers and perform first interviews. If you apply for a job Online you are just another submission, while at the job fair you can stand out and make a great impression in person. 

At the same time, by going to a job fair you can get a great sense of the company you are looking at, if it is right for you and a place that you would like to work.

Profiles for GP Services have now been added to the CQC website

From 1 April, all GP services, such as doctors' surgeries and walk-in centres, came under the CQC's system of regulation. More than 8,500 profiles of these services have been added to the CQC online directory of care services.

You can search for any of these services, and GP out-of-hours services that were registered last April, by clicking on the GP services tab on the CQC website. 

You can search by the name of the service, a place name or your postcode. Once you have found the service you are interested in, you can let the CQC know about your experience of it using a dedicated form. You can find out more about the inspection process for GPs and enter your experiences of a GP surgery at the CQC website.

Matador Become The First to Sell eBooks to Customers Online

Matador has become the UK's first self-publishing company to sell copy protected ePub eBooks directly to customers through its online shop. This will enable authors to cut out the retailer and take up to 85% of the eBook's cover price. 

The eBooks can be downloaded to most eReaders, such as Kindle Fire, iPad and Nook. However, like all retailers, the system will not be able to sell the eBooks to Kindle customers. Before you start downloading, you will need to get yourself a free Adobe ID. All of the eBooks sold will be protected by Adobe DRM system, this will mean that books sold in this way will be protected and less likely to be copied. 

Matador are hoping to have all of their eBooks uploaded to their online shop by the end of April, so that customers will have thousands of books to choose from. 

This new step does not mean that Matador will abandon their current retailers. All of the eBooks they sell will still be available through their existing network of retailers, such as Amazon and Apple. The new system just offers customers more choice!

eBooks: A Sign of Things to Come?

The New South Wales Government in Australia is getting ready to include eBooks schools and libraries. They are initiating a new statewide collection of eBook resources accessible to all public schools. The programme, set to launch in 2013, will be run by the State Education Department's School Library and Information Literacy team, based in Sydney.

The new eBook programme will start with the ‘Empowering Local Schools’ initiative, in June. It will gradually see a staggered release of the eBooks to all schools by 2015. Giving all public schools access to thousands of eBooks. The plan is to standardise all public school libraries and facilities on a hosted school library system.

There will be 5000 titles available in June to the first group of schools participating in the eBook programme. Students will be able to read the titles on State issued e-readers and tablets, or devices of their own.

Currently, issues are being resolved surrounding the cost of the programme and how much the Government will have to pay.It is likely that they will be a combination of royalty free open source books, that are in the public domain.

Common Errors When Making Changes to the CQC Registration Process

The CQC has found that there are some common errors when people are making changes to their registration. 

These common mistakes include:

I’m a registered manager and I want to add an regulated activity to my registration. Can I do that before my provider has added that activity to their registration?

No. If you are a registered manager and need to apply to add a regulated activity that is new to the provider, the provider must make application and be approved before you submit your application.

I want to remove a partner from my registration who is our registered manager. How do I do that?

If you want to remove a partner who is also the registered manager, you will need to complete two separate forms - one form to remove the partner and one form to cancel their registration as the registered manager.

You can use the Form Finder on the CQC website to help you with the changes you need to make.

Making Changes to Your CQC Registration Before 1 April 2013

Once you have received your Notice of Decision and certificate you will be able to make changes to your CQC registration. You can continue to make these changes using forms on the CQC website. Make sure you only use these forms, they are marked 'primary medical services'.

From April onwards you will be able to make changes to your registration through easy-to-use online forms. You will be able to submit them straight to the CQC through your account.

It is important that you let the CQC know about any changes as you need to make sure your registration is up-to-date when it comes into effect on 1 April 2013.

If your locations, legal status, regulated activities, partners or other details change before 1 April, you’ll be able to apply to make those changes using downloadable forms that you can email to the CQC. You can find the application you need to use by using the Form finder for primary medical services.

Writers' & Artists' 'Beat the Rejection' Clinic

Every Thursday afternoon for the rest of March, Writers' & Artists' are hosting a 'Beat the Rejection' Clinic. Hosted at the Bloomsbury Publishing Offices in central London.

The clinic offers the opportunity to discover why your work was rejected. You will have a 30 minute one-to-one meeting with a literary agent who has fully appraised your submission (letter, synopsis and first three chapters). The session will help you to see how you might be able to turn your writing around and who you should target next. 

Jenny Savill will be hosting the 'Beat the Rejection' clinics this month. Savill is a literary agent at Andrew Nurnberg Associates Ltd where she represents authors of fiction and non-fiction writing for both children and adults. Jenny likes to work editorially with authors and is on the look-out for authentic voices, strong plots and magnificent storytelling. Jenny is interested in finding new voices in women’s fiction, historical fiction, memoir and narrative non-fiction.
