Latest news from the British Library!


The British Library is pleased to announce that it has acquired the archive of the critically acclaimed poet, Wendy Cope.

Wendy Cope was born in Kent, educated in London. Following her graduation from St Hilda's College, she spent 15 years as a Primary School teacher. In 1981 she took up the post of arts and review editor for the Inner London Education Authority magazine. Five years later she became a freelance writer and was a television critic for The Spectator Magazine until 1990. Four collections of her poems have been published, and she has edited a number of anthologies.

The hybrid archive that the British Library has now acquired, encompassing material in both paper and electronic form, comprises of 15 large storage boxes as well as an extensive collection of email correspondence and Word files. These contain poetic and other literary drafts spanning Cope's entire career, personal and professional correspondence, accounts books and material relating to her early life and career in teaching. A fabulous collection!
